A Nursery through Eighth Grade school, Mountain Laurel Waldorf School was founded in 1983 by a group of parents searching for an educational alternative for their children.
Located in the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley, New Paltz is approximately ninety miles from New York City. It is home to many active artists and ecological groups. Two major centers of Anthroposophical endeavor, Spring Valley with Sunbridge College and Hawthorne Valley are close by.
The school currently has a mandate group system of governance and a committed College with an active and supportive Board of Trustees. Our staff numbers 25. There are three early childhood classrooms.
The Lead Early Childhood Teacher maintains the class environment while caring for the children with the help of their assistant. They create a warm supportive atmosphere, help prepare meals, and care for the physical space of the classroom and outdoor play yard consistent with Waldorf Early Childhood Education methods and practices. Children are aged 3-4 years old.
Position is full time and salaried. 5 days per week, 8am – 3:30pm. (We have afternoon lead teachers for our EC classrooms but require our teachers to remain on campus in the afternoons.) Additional duties may include festival planning, mandate group meetings and weekly pedagogical and College of Teachers meetings. Tuition remission is available. Yearly professional development opportunities are available.
