Our EC programs are bursting at the seams and we’re needing to add a third kindergarten, a preschool class and are replacing a toddler program teacher. All three positions are full-time with health benefits and tuition remission. For the toddler program, the ideal candidate will have a passion for birth to three work and some additional training or interest in RIE/Pikler. We are seeking experienced teachers with a Waldorf early childhood certificate from a WECAN approved training center. Skills and experience in outreach and parent support are also desired as these positions are often the first school experience for families. The toddler program serves children from 1-3 years old with a four hour morning program and an option for extended day until 2:45. The toddler class is capped at 14 with two assistants, so the adult:child ratio is under 1:5. With three teachers in the classroom, we offer unhurried 1:1 caregiving. The toddler classroom, with lazured walls and windows on two sides, contains its own bathroom with a large platform for diaper changing. For all three lead teacher positions, the work includes the morning program lead teaching and supervisory responsibilities of the assistants who may also carry the afternoon portion. We are also hopeful that one of our candidates would like to teach a Caregiver and Child program. The School is housed in a purposely designed building surrounded by 100 acres of preserved forest and trails. There are many beautiful outdoor play spaces, including a larger EC playground with a large, covered pavilion for an “outdoor classroom” and a smaller “Little Woods” adjacent to the toddler classroom, with its own little playhouse, sandbox and outdoor toys. Classes also have access to the trails in the surrounding forest. Whidbey Island Waldorf School was founded in 1985 and is located on the south end of Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. The school’s rich Waldorf tradition, high caliber teachers, engaged parent body and beautiful island location all combine to make us a “destination” school. Whidbey Island is a unique and idyllic place to live, especially for people with young children or people looking to semi-retire. It’s a peaceful, family-oriented atmosphere with farmers markets, beaches, trails, art galleries, music and restaurants. Even though it’s a rural setting, Seattle is just an hour away via the nearby ferry. One of the restaurants has a tagline: So magical, the ferries take you there. Candidates are requested to submit the items below to Lori Barian, Administrator Whidbey Island Waldorf School, 6335 Old Pietila Rd, Clinton, WA. 98236 or firstname.lastname@example.org 1. A letter of interest articulating why the candidate believes he or she is suited for the position. 2. A resume with 3 professional reference contacts.
