FOUNDATIONS OF THE FIRST THREE YEARS - AN EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE PROGRAM

This course will cover childhood development from birth to three years. It is based primarily upon the work of Rudolf Steiner and Emmi Pikler.  We will also recognize the valuable contributions of others in the field of Early Childhood Education. The program will include:

  • seven hours of online meetings each month (September-May);

  • one hours of monthly mentoring with an experienced Waldorf early childhood educator;

  • material will be presented via zoom presentations that include conversations and experiential activities;

  • assignments will include readings and viewing prerecorded videos.

The course takes place over 9 months, September to May. New sessions start each September.

 

Enrollment is open to all, there are no prerequisites for this course. Students will receive a certificate of completion from Sophia's Hearth.

This program is NOT recognized by the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America

 

 

Tuition is $3,500. Students who complete the program and enroll in the Certificate program will be given a $2000 credit towards tuition and credit for the first two weeks of the program.

Content to include:
  • The development of the child from birth to three, including motor, cognitive, social-emotional and spiritual development

  • The significance of the first three years in the life of the individual including the unfolding of walking, speaking, and thinking

  • Care routines of dressing, napping, and diapering

  • General overview of the feeding of infants and young children

  • Working out of respect for, and upholding the dignity of each parent and family

  • How to implement parent-child programs, toddler programs, programs for home and childcare centers

  • The importance of rhythm and working out of imitation for building resilience and well-being of the young child

  • Supporting the developing foundational senses during the first three years
