The Early Childhood Teacher Education Center
at Sophia's Hearth
offering Waldorf Education for teachers
"discovering the wisdom of childhood"
Sophia’s Hearth Family Center was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 1999. Programs for parents began soon after until our playgroup program outgrew Antioch’s donated space. With hard work from the board of directors and volunteer parents, our first actual program location was created in the autumn of 2002.
In 2010, we completed construction of our permanent home at 700 Court Street and opened our childcare center.
In 2013, after years of offering a birth to three certificate we developed and enrolled the first class to complete our birth to seven program. That fall we expanded our childcare program adding a dedicated preschool classroom.
In 2017, we once again expanded our building, adding a larger toddler classroom and expanding our infant space to double the capacity for the youngest children.
In 2018, the building expansion continued to include our Community Room which is used for teacher education and parent courses.
