What is the natural course of the development of sensory integration, and how does one actually observe these changes over time? What are the particular aspects of self-initiated movement that make it so valuable for children—of any age—as they develop their senses and integrate one sense with another one? We will look at the development of sensory integration as embedded into the self-initiated gross and fine motor sequences.

This workshop is for anyone working with infants and toddlers. In addition it will provide a foundational understanding of sensory integration as a developmental process, and so is also applicable for those working with children up to seven years and beyond. As self-initiated movement (play) is a hallmark of early childhood education, this workshop will empower teachers to meet children in their care who have challenges in their sensory development. There will be time for questions and discussion.
